About This Piece

An arched backboard with a row of shaker pegs: the Arch is a wall mounted wooden coat rack in solid maple or oak, made in our Brooklyn woodshop.

Shaker pegs are the old answer to coats, hats, and bags: turned wood pegs that take a winter coat as easily as a tote. It comes with 2, 3, 4, or 6 pegs, from a strip beside the door up to a full mudroom wall.

Keyhole slots milled into the backboard hang it flush against the wall, with no visible hardware.

The Classic, with a rectangular backboard, is the straight-lined version of the same rack.

Solid Wood Arched Shaker Peg Coat Rack

Why we chose it

Good design, with a point of view

Shaker pegs are a centuries-old answer to the coat-on-the-chair problem, and this rack makes that answer look intentional. The arched backboard in solid maple or oak gives a utilitarian object a shape worth noticing, while the flush-mount keyhole back keeps the wall clean. Scale it from a slim 2-peg strip beside the door to a 6-peg run across the mudroom — same rack, different ambitions.

Styling note

A little guidance from our edit

Pair the oak version with a jute runner and a terracotta umbrella stand for an entry that looks collected rather than thrown together.
